Southfield Community for Growth Coalition
(“SCGC,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting the privacy of our members and maintaining a professional, ethical, and mission-aligned organization. By joining SCGC, members agree to the following Privacy Policy, Membership Code of Conduct, and Participation Requirements.
1. Privacy Policy – Information We Collect
SCGC collects limited personal information solely for membership administration, communication, and organizational operations.
Information Collected
We currently collect the following information when an individual joins or interacts with our website:

Confirmation of agreement to our Terms & Conditions and Membership Policies (via checkbox)
We do not collect sensitive personal information such as Social Security numbers, financial account information, or government identification numbers.
2. How We Use Member Information
The information we collect is used for the following purposes:

Communicating organizational updates, meetings, and events

Coordinating member participation in city council meetings and public engagement activities

SCGC does not sell, rent, or trade member information to third parties.
3. Data Protection & Confidentiality
We take reasonable steps to protect member information from unauthorized access, misuse, or disclosure. Access to member data is limited to authorized SCGC leadership and administrative personnel.
Members acknowledge that electronic communications (email, forms, website submissions) may carry inherent risks, and SCGC cannot guarantee absolute security.
4. Consent & Agreement
By checking the acknowledgment box during registration, members affirm that:

Failure to comply with these policies may result in suspension or termination of membership.
Membership Code of Conduct
SCGC exists to promote ethical governance, transparency, community-led decision-making, and responsible stewardship of public resources. Members are expected to uphold these values at all times.
Professional Conduct Standards
All members agree to:

Conduct themselves professionally, respectfully, and ethically at all SCGC meetings, public meetings, and community events

Engage in civil discourse, even when expressing disagreement

Avoid disruptive, defamatory, or inflammatory behavior that undermines the organization’s mission or credibility
SCGC reserves the right to address behavior that damages the organization’s reputation or effectiveness.
Public Comment & Representation Policy
When speaking at any public meeting (including city council, boards, commissions, or public hearings), members agree to:

Clearly identify themselves by name

State that they are speaking as a member of Southfield Community for Growth Coalition

Follow SCGC guidelines for drafting and delivering public comments
-
Stay aligned with the organization’s mission, pillars, and adopted positions
Members must review and follow the official SCGC Public Comment Training & Guidelines prior to speaking on behalf of the organization.
Participation Requirements
To remain in good standing, members agree to the following minimum participation commitments:
City Council Attendance

Attend a minimum of ten (10) City of Southfield City Council meetings per calendar year

Participation may include in-person or approved virtual attendance, where applicable
Member Recruitment

Recruit at least five (5) new members to SCGC within the first year of membership
-
Support outreach, education, and coalition-building efforts within the community
These requirements are essential to maintaining an active, engaged, and representative coalition.
Training & Preparedness
Members agree to:

Review agendas prior to meetings where they intend to speak

Prepare statements in advance when possible

Participate in SCGC trainings, briefings, or preparation sessions related to public engagement and advocacy
Prepared members strengthen the credibility and impact of the organization.
Non-Discrimination & Respect
SCGC does not tolerate discrimination or harassment based on race, color, gender, age, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or any other protected status. All members are expected to foster an inclusive and respectful environment.
Violations & Enforcement
Failure to comply with these policies may result in:

A warning and corrective guidance

Temporary suspension of membership privileges

Termination of membership, at the discretion of SCGC leadership
Decisions are made to protect the integrity, mission, and effectiveness of the organization.
Policy Updates
SCGC reserves the right to update or amend these policies as the organization grows. Members will be notified of material changes through official communication channels.
